Bridging the Gap of the Green Revolution
ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Assam, is a constituent institute established under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Located at Dirpai Chapori, Gogamukh, in Dhemaji district of Assam — on the north bank of the Brahmaputra — the institute addresses the long-standing gap in agricultural research and education in the North-Eastern region.
The North-Eastern region of India is endowed with a wide range of agricultural resources and immense potential for food and nutritional security. Yet the transformative impact of the Green Revolution was less realised here. ICAR-IARI was established at Gogamukh to undertake research, develop efficient technologies, and foster extension for ushering in the Second Green Revolution through holistic development of agriculture in North-East India.
Today, ICAR-IARI Assam conducts research across crop science, natural resource management, and animal and fishery sciences; runs undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in agriculture; and actively engages with farming communities through training, demonstrations, and outreach.
