Overview
ICAR-IARI Assam started its academic programmes in 2015–16, and today has 141 B.Sc. (Agriculture) students enrolled from more than 20 states across India — a diversity that reflects the national importance of the institute. In addition, four M.Sc. (Agriculture) students are currently pursuing their degrees on campus in Agronomy and Soil Science.
As per the EFC plan 2021–26 and the NEP 2020 framework, IARI Assam is proposed as an off-campus of IARI New Delhi for undergraduate and postgraduate education, with an approved UG intake of 60 B.Sc. (Agriculture) students per year. The institute also aims to serve as an institution of learning in higher agricultural education for South-East Asia.
B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture
The four-year undergraduate programme provides students with a thorough foundation in crop sciences, soil science, agricultural economics, extension education, and allied disciplines. The curriculum follows ICAR guidelines and combines rigorous classroom teaching with extensive practical and field-based learning.

Typical Program Structure
A 4 Year B.S .In Agriculture program usually follows a structure split across three or four academic terms (e.g., Eight semesters plus a summer term, or three quarters plus a summer term).

- Structure: Heavily focused on taught coursework and often culminates in a capstone project or dissertation completed over the summer.

M.Sc. (Agriculture)
Postgraduate students at ICAR-IARI Assam work under the direct guidance of active research scientists, ensuring that their postgraduate training is embedded in real research addressing the challenges of the North-Eastern region. M.Sc. students from IARI Assam have been admitted at the IARI New Delhi campus since 2015–16, with 39 students having completed their degrees and 25 currently enrolled as of the EFC submission (2021).

Campus Life
Students at ICAR-IARI Assam live in the Brahmaputra Boys Hostel and the Subansiri Girls Hostel, both inaugurated in March 2024. The campus has a computer laboratory, smart classrooms, a library, and sports facilities. The Students’ Council organises a range of activities through the year — cultural festivals (Harmony Fiesta, RANGREZ’25), essay and debate competitions, Republic Day celebrations, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, and New Year celebrations. Students have also participated in ICAR Zonal Sports Tournaments and national competitions.
